Small Sparks Grants for Community Groups

Small Sparks Grants are grants of up to £250 for anyone in Gloucestershire who wants to get together with friends and neighbours, including people with disabilities and mental health challenges, to do things together that they enjoy, for the benefit of their community. In 2014 66 Small Sparks Grants were given to groups of friends and neighbours across the county totalling £16,125. Applications were made by arts and craft groups, lunch clubs, choirs, community cafes, sports groups, a men’s group, a bird watching club and many more.

Grants for Individuals

Barnwood Trust gives grants directly to people with disabilities and mental health challenges in Gloucestershire.

The Opportunities Award opens the way for people to try something new that might lead to employment or volunteering. It can also be used to enhance a hobby or interest. In 2014 we gave 66 Opportunities Awards across the county totalling £56,329. People used the Opportunities Award to fund things like training courses, equipment, tools and clothing.

The Wellbeing Fund enables people to live more independently. In 2014 we gave 755 Wellbeing Grants totalling £286,775. Grants are used for things like clothing, computers, holidays, house adaptions and disability aids.

Grants for organisations

Barnwood Trust gives grants of up to £1,000 to organisations who work to benefit people living with disabilities or mental health challenges. Grants could be for new projects, pilot schemes or specific items of equipment.

Grants are also available towards holidays and play schemes for organisations with a proven track record of providing holidays, trips or play schemes for people in Gloucestershire with a disability or mental health challenge.

A total of 89 organisations successfully applied for and received a grant during 2014 totalling £62,366. 48 grants went to fund projects, 29 for play schemes and holidays, 6 for equipment and 6 for adaptations.
